Last week Zero-K, an RTS that has its roots based in TA, launched on Steam. Player numbers have been around 600 during evenings this week, maybe we will see higher over the weekend. If you're interested in trying it out it is free and can be found in the steam store at store.steampowered.com/app/334920/ZeroK/There is a ladder that has automatic matchmaking for 1v1 and teams up to 4v4 ( zero-k.info/Ladders ) and occasionally a Planetwars event over a weekend (think IGW from GBL or PW, with some differences) ( zero-k.info/Planetwars - one from a couple of weeks ago). Main differences from TA: No Arm/Core, no tier 2/3 tech, however a choice of 11 different starting labs gives diversity (2 kbot types, 2 vehicle types, airplant, gunships, hovers, amphibious, jumpjet, spider/all terrain, ships). Each unit costs the same amount of metal as energy, some units/buildings use energy (cloak, radar, shields etc.) A choice of 4 different base commanders at game start, with different strengths, be it build power, jumpjet, or better hp/weapons. There's a lot of things possible with the UI, such as formations for units with a simple line drag, area reclaim, zoom etc. Hope to see some old TA players on there, I'm on as PRO_rANDY so send me a message if you see me and want some pointers.
