ok, when i get into ta, i get the normal screen, with join, watch etc. but if i click anything it just freezes for around 20 secs then updates, if i click again - same thing. However, if someone else host the TAD i can join it via ip with no problem. It has always worked for me before, cant see what has made it break.

I've had the same problem ever since I installed vista, if you find a fix for it please post it here.
Thanks

Ok I think I have a fix for watching tads on evil Vista. Two people have reported this same setup and have successfully ran the replayer. I do the same thing by default on xp because of my setup.
1) Open the replayer
2) Go to options
3) Set the TA directory to C:\CAVEDOG\TOTALA\ or your path to the Totala folder
4) Set the directory to put tads in, I.E. C:\CAVEDOG\TOTALA\TADS or wherever you want to keep your recordings. Make the directory folder if it is not already created.
5) Set the recorder to autorecord.
6) Make sure you erase any ip you may have in the game to play or host ip games.
7 kill your firewall when watching tads. Use the TCPIP option to watch.
This has worked for some but I have not personaly tested it yet. I will in the future and report any anomalies I see. Please post if you have input on this, good or bad, as it has cursed many a player.
HAVE FUN! 8)

It didnt work. I can see the game, but i cant join it. when you host? or when you join games? this problem is usually fixed when the windows firewall isnt blocking the microsoft direct play helper, and the ta demo recorder. to be sure, i just turn mine off.

When i host games. I can join by ip without any pb if someone else host.
My fw is always off, as the only thing i do on this comp is playing games. I've never had this problem under xp.
I gave up a while ago and im now watching games on another comp anyways...

I got that problem too after windows update installed latest MSN and some junk apps which i foolisly agreed to install. Doing a rollback didnt help. What I did was downgrading my directX forcibly - it still didnt work, but i installed the dplay dpwsock.dll from dplay 5.0, then it worked again. Directplay has been abolished in later releases of DirectX in line with MS desire to direct all gaming to their online service Windows Live. It seems that they have broken backwards compability somehow.

I used to have this problem on shitty vista - saw the game but couldn't join whether windows firewall was on or not. Now i can't see the game at all, but when i turn off windows firewall i can join fine and it works. Not sure if an update changed security settings in vista or not - but it works now for me on vista.
