Does anybody else ever get a bit bored of how effective Hawks are. They just seem to be the deciding factor in SO MANY high level games. People can be slugging away for 45 minutes doing lots of interesting stuff, then it gets to the end and someone has better production and builds a few more hawks and the game is over in minutes.

Hawks are the premier way to go in a lot of games, they deliver the most firepower the quickest, and can arrive on scene faster than most other. They're expensive though, and high up the tech tree. Most games recently on TADRS have been pretty close games where teching up is a part of it. "Fast hawks' In a 1v1 is almost a sure way to find yourself drastically behind your opponet, so they're not the end all be all of TA. They're just the end all be all of the late game.
And the game does need a way to end. If it kept going and going with no real way to defeat an opponet until someone falls asleep, then it would be age of empires...

I agree with Postal.
Hawk is pretty expensive unit afterall, advair + 7 farks = ~ 5,5k metal. That metal is worth like 6 crusaders or 20 pels - before you got single hawk out.
Only at very late game when players have alot of income to really mass them, they become main unit. Before that, theyre more like support units.
In lategame hawk is superior cause of speed and cause their firepower is easy to concentrate, not because theyre easy to mass. Massing hawks is actually more time and reso consuming than massing ground/sea units.
To comment that: "someone has better production and builds a few more hawks and the game is over in minutes. "
That is the case if both players are making similar stuff. Its not related to hawks, but to same build vs same build. Same can be said about crus or flash wars aswell.

Good points Postal and Tip. I suppose it's just that alot of other same build vs same build are more interesting to watch. Berthas, flashes, crusaders. Hawk battles can get a little dull to watch.
The game does have to end somehow though. It'd get equally dull if it went on for hours.
