Every time I return home from the gym, I walk past a park where all the local punker kids hang out when weather permits. Teenagers, drinking beer, trying their hardest to be different, showing off their new haircuts. And I think it's kinda cute, cause, punk is dead. It was dead when I grew up, and I'm no teenager.
The TA community, with all the intrigues and endless chat sessions about who pwns who, reminds me of them.
Game's dead, as we all know. No one except the 10-20 usual suspects you see on Zone every night, gives a shit who's pwning who.
Will Venom back up the smack talk, is Diablo unbetable right now, will Pacer get over his teenage identity crisis and stop worrying about his lack of motivation to play? For some reason, these questions are interesting enough to keep people on Zone. Week after week.
A dead game, a sleepy community and lots of talk about fucking nothing. And yet, you can't quit.
I can't quit either. And I play like, one game every two weeks. Still I harass Raster for demos on MSN, check the ladder, have late night conversations with RVD about his latest strategies. I review demos and I make posts on this forum.
Seriously, I can't figure out why. I played MMORPGS for two years, and I spent hours every day in those addictive fantasy worlds. That stuff is worse then drugs, belive me. But when I finally quit, I never looked back.
Still, here I am, making a long ass post about nothing, really, to get myself started. Writers do that you see, we start with something meaningless to warm up the keyboard. So that I can write something that might actually help me pay the rent, later. And I just thought it would be fun to bore you, would you actually read this.
So what is the current state of TA?
Well, it's pretty safe to say that Diablo is the man to beat right now. RVD is having some serious steam control issues. Tilt, TA style, if you will. Raster is starting to sound like NEO on a bad day, becoming a true eastern european cynic. Snoop is still Snoop but his strats on John's maps are no longer invincible.
Fortunately for these guys, the top dogs of TA year 2006, Aprox is always there to help out with a few wins to repair self confidence. he doesn't mind, the upset win he gets once every week keeps him going. At the same time, he hates the game. I can realte, you have my sympathies.
That's all for now. I think I might use this board a bit more often to rant. It's a good way to start. Now, I'm gonna try and get some actual work done. And later go check out the punkers. I'm sure they'll be at the usual place. Just like you will be later tonight.
